Ousiyu (Julia) Luo

Luo Ousiyu (Julia) began her studies on the zheng (Chinese 21-string zither) at age 5. As the first Bachelor of Music (Historical Performance) majoring in zheng at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, she was mentored by Lei Dianyun, a zheng artist and the deputy director of The Chinese Orchestra of China National Opera and Dance Drama Theater. In her recent 4th-year studies, Julia joined the Fuzheng Quintet, fostering cross-cultural collaborations and blending zheng's tones with flute and piano. Notably, she was invited to perform in the "New Music Ensemble" in 2021, showcasing her passion for modern zheng music. Committed to the integration of Chinese traditional instruments with the multicultural landscape of music, Julia aspires to collaborate with musicians and composers from diverse cultures, creating harmonious works that bridge cross-cultural musical traditions.
